Label-Information:
It was revolutionary in this day and age - a whole concert of Broadway
show tunes sung in a Broadway theatre without amplification. In
September 2004 producer Scott Siegel proved the critics wrong and sold out a
one-night-only, no microphone concert at Town Hall called "Broadway
Unplugged."
The idea was so unique that the New York Times even did a feature piece on
it the day before the show! And everyone wanted to be a part of it. A
star-studded line-up of artists that included Christine Andreas, Michael
Cerveris, Marc Kudisch, Alice Ripley, Mary Testa, etc. They sang a range of
Broadway songs from the 1920s through the 1990s, featuring a wide variety of
styles, from operetta to pop, from classic musical comedy to blues - and, of
course to big belt brassy numbers. Bayview captured this unique
experience for disc, so thrill to Barbara Walsh's stunningly moving,
"Holding To The Ground," as she repeats her role from the original
Broadway production of "Falsettos," as Chuck Cooper brings the house
down with his socko delivery of "Low Down Blues" from "Eubie!", and as
Christine Andreas delivers the most exquisite version of "My Ship" from
"Lady In The Dark."
