Dies ist die wohl ursprünglichste Porgy & Bess Aufführung: Harnoncourt instrumentiert mit original afrikanischen Trommeln, und der Arnold Schönberg Chor musste den "Galla"-Dialekt einstudieren - zwei Beispiele für die Authentizität, die er mit dem Chamber Orchestra of Europe zelebriert. Darüber hinaus verpflichtete Harnoncourt für seine Interpretation internationale Spitzeninterpreten:
