This story of young love during a sun-soaked summer became the most loved British musical of the 1950s and went on to achieve a record-breaking run as one of the longest running shows ever. Julian Slade’s happy songs caught the sudden optimism of a new Elizabethan age when the show took London by storm in 1954, but their timeless quality has helped to make Slade a legend in British theatre. One of the very earliest LPs to be made of a British musical, this original cast recording catches the unique mood of the work, and is followed by over half an hour of excerpts from a recording of a ‘live’ stage performance of the original production.
